Hi Everyone, We have a single Mother with two children aged 12 and 8 who live in Cato-ridge KZN. The children have only been to school for one month this year, they cannot attend school because the mother is unable to pay the R 1600 per child to get them back into school. This is the mother's main concern. We need to get these kids back in school. Then the rent is behind also, and this is the only place they have to stay, they have nowhere else to go if they are evicted for non-payment. The mother has a job opportunity this Monday so we're holding thumbs and hoping for the best. The children also don't have any warm clothing to wear, nothing whatsoever to keep warm with the cold they have been experiencing. The boy wear medium sized shirts, size 34 pants, and a size 8 shoe, the little girl wears age 8-9 year old clothes and a size 13 shoe. So we are asking if anyone of our friends, donors, members and the public can offer any form of assistance. We need to get these children back in school, this is the first priority. Then if anyone is able to assist with food, winter clothing and rent money for this family please. Lets try and save this family from spiraling deeper into despair. If we can stand together and make a difference, help these people out and show them that there are people out there that truly care. Citizen! Do Not Be Two Faced! By Kevin Barbieux ( A homeless person) Be clear about what you want. For all the obvious and cliché reasons, (they are dirty and smelly, they create trash, they harass people for money, etc., etc., ad naseum) you, the average citizen, declare far and wide, and loud, that you do not want homeless people in your neighbourhood, your town, whatever. Then the experts on homelessness come to you and tell you exactly what it takes to end homelessness. Namely, that the homeless need assistance getting off the streets. You, Mr and Miss Citizen, consider what they say and you balk. You then declare that “Homeless people do not deserve this help.” Look!, you can’t have it both ways. So, make up your mind. Is this going to be about them, or about you? You say you deserve a homeless free city. But in the same breath you say homeless people don’t deserve to be helped off the streets. I know, you expect homeless people to get off the streets all by themselves. Certainly that would be nice if it happened that way, but that’s not the reality of the situation. Only about 1/2 of the homeless population could get themselves off the streets, IF there were plenty of jobs to be had, and apartments were affordable. The other 1/2 WILL STILL REQUIRE assistance of one kind or another to achieve the goal of getting off the streets permanently. Again, decide what you want and then follow through. If you don’t want to help the homeless, then you MUST accept that there will be homeless people in your life. There’s no other way around it. Just know that if you do decide that you want homelessness to end, it will require your involvement in some way.

Its less likely to be abused. Perhaps a few restaurants and coffee shops could give it a test run in South Africa? Why leave it only at a cup of coffee, perhaps one could also have a suspended meal waiting for someone that's homeless?
Here is something I stumbled upon. A homeless guy started a website and writes his thoughts, experiences and challenges that he faces on this site. Most of us out there are busy trying to survive by working a 8 to 5 job and find little time if any to actually chat to a homeless person or let alone have the courage to actually speak to one. Most people don't speak to homeless people because 1. What do you say to a homeless person? 2. Would I offend them if I ask them about their story? 3. This guy looks a bit dangerous, I'm scared to stop and ask. 4. Some might even say "Its their own fault that they are there anyway, why make their problem my problem?" These are the most common responses we have heard. Perhaps you can add some under comments below? UDATE: Munsieville classrooms. I visited the camp to see the progress on the classrooms and was pleasantly suprised to see the wire and mesh up for the classrooms. All that needs to be done is to get more poles to make the wire more sturdy and then the plastering will begin. Thank to everyone for your support.
